StockWise is a free learning site. We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and we never show ads. Here's exactly what's stored and why.

Last updated October 21, 2026

1. The short version

  • You need an email and password to save progress. Everything else is optional.
  • We don't ask for your real name, address, phone number, school, or any payment details.
  • We don't sell your information, share it with advertisers, or show ads.
  • Other users only ever see your username, never your email.
  • You can ask for your account and everything in it to be deleted at any time.

2. What we collect

Your account. Your email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed) by our login provider, so nobody, including us, can read them.

Your username, if you choose one for Friends or Lobbies.

What you do on the site, so your progress is saved: practice trades and holdings (with virtual money), your watchlist, lessons read, answers to challenges and scenarios, news predictions, notes you write about your trades, XP and badges, friends and friend requests, and the lobbies you join.

Basic usage counts. How many AI explanations you request each day (to keep usage fair), and, if it's switched on, anonymous visit statistics from our host (see section 5).

3. Why we use it

  • To run your account and save your progress.
  • To run Friends, weekly contests and Lobbies, including working out results and awarding XP.
  • To keep the site safe and fair: daily limits, blocking offensive names, and stopping cheating.
  • To understand how the site is used as a whole, such as how many people used it this week, so it can be improved. The person who runs StockWise can see a private summary of this, with usernames but not emails.

4. Who can see what

  • Friends you've accepted can see your username and how much your practice portfolio grew this week, in percent.
  • Players in a lobby with you can see your username and your portfolio's growth since joining. Public lobby names can be seen by anyone who is logged in.
  • Nobody else can see your trades, notes, answers, or email.

5. Outside services we use

StockWise runs on a few services that handle data for us. None of them may use it for their own advertising.

  • Supabase stores accounts and progress, and handles logging in.
  • Vercel hosts the website. Its Web Analytics, if switched on, counts visits and pages viewed without cookies and without identifying you.
  • Anthropic provides the AI that explains news stories and text you ask to have explained. It receives the news headline or the text you highlighted, not your email or account details.
  • Finnhub, Twelve Data and Alpha Vantage provide stock prices and news. They only see which stock symbols the site looks up, not who asked.

6. Cookies and saved settings

We use cookies only to keep you logged in. Your light or dark mode choice and whether sounds are on are saved in your own browser, not on our servers. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Age

You must be 13 or older to create an account. If you're under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is okay with you using StockWise. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it.

8. Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information while you have an account. If you'd like your account and everything in it deleted, contact us (below) from the email address on the account and we'll delete it. You can also ask for a copy of what we have about you.

9. Keeping it safe

Connections to the site are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and the database only lets each person read their own records. Changes to XP, trades and progress can only be made by our server after it checks the request. No system is perfect, so use a password you don't use anywhere else.

10. Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we'll also mention it on the site.

A contact email address will be added here soon.
